You haven’t lived until you’ve snuggled with ANDIE! She is a sweet little pocket pittie that is only about 2 years old and weighs less than 40 lb. She is super lovable and huggable – we don’t know how someone could drop her off at the shelter after litter of puppies. Unfortunately we believe whoever owned her wanted to sell her puppies and dump her. Andie loves to snuggle, take walks and play with her foster siblings and with toys. She loves being right next to her foster parents and follows them from room-to-room, even from stove to counter – she’s right on your heels. She does great in her crate at night and while at work, even though she’d prefer to be with you. She has learned sit very quickly and is working on the other basic commands. She does great on a leash and loves an evening walk. Andie would be great in a home as an only dog or with other dogs, she does love to play! We don’t know how she is around cats or children – although she’s never met a person she didn’t love. If you are looking for a snuggle buddy and play mate – Andie is the girl for you! ELLIE is one of those dogs that really make us scratch our heads on WHY she ended up in the shelter and was never claimed back by her owners. This sweetie pie is 1.5 years old, Staffordshire Terrier mix.  Her name should have been Petunia because she snorts just like a pig.  We all think her snorts are very endearing.  She’s a fan favorite at the office, where she gets to hang out with her foster Mom.  Ellie absolutely loves her six 4 legged foster siblings who range from 10 to 100 lbs.  She’s very submissive when playing with people and dogs. Ellie is very laid back, she will run and play, but equally as content laying around.  If someone wants to play with her she will play, but she will go in her crate (with door open) and stay all day. She’s great on a leash, housebroken, crate trained, knows sit, down and will shake hands. Can you think of a better girl than that??  She will make an amazing addition to any family.  We do not know how she is with cats and children at this time, but with her laid back personality, we don’t foresee any issues.   If you are interested in ELLIE or any of our dogs, you must live in the greater Cincinnati, OH area. We are honored to introduce you to a truly special lady, Bailey (FKA Koka). Bailey has not had the easiest life, and although she is proving to be resilient, the scars on her heart are so evident. Bailey was rescued by Adore-A-Bull in the springtime of 2011, with a litter of puppies. At that time, she was known as Koka, AABR’s first mommy who was saved when she was abandoned at the shelter. At that time, it was also suspected that she was abused because she was clearly very scared of everyone and everything. In a perfect world, all of our dogs would stay in the comfort and love of their adoptive homes forever, however, after 6 years of security in her home, Bailey’s family made the decision to take her to their local shelter. With Bailey being sensitive girl, the stress of shelter life was more than she could handle, and she shut down to the point of unresponsiveness and constant heavy (stressful) panting. It is challenging for us to see how detrimental this transition is for dogs coming back, knowing there is more the families could have provided to help facilitate the dogs staying in their home. It is especially difficult because the family never gets to see how hard it is on the dog they surrendered. In Bailey's case, scrutiny and disapproval from others in her neighborhood about her breed was a major deciding factor that pushed her family to take her to the shelter. Luckily the awesome shelter staff identified Bailey as an AABR dog and we, along with her foster family, were able help this sweet girl, and get her out of the shelter. Immediately we know she would need a lot of time to decompress and heal, as she was so scared of her new surroundings that she wouldn’t even get out of the car when she arrived at her new foster home. But…we are excited to say that Bailey is slowly on the road to recovery and looking for the perfect family! Bailey has been in her foster home for two months and is getting stronger and more confident each day. They just love this sweet girl. Although you can sense her uncertainty, she has never shown any aggression, she just needs time to adapt to new people and places. Her foster family gave her a few weeks to get settled before meeting her canine foster brother as to not overwhelm her. They quickly realized that her foster brother was exactly what she needed! Bailey thrives when there is another easygoing, confident dog around her so that she can take cues and direction from them. He helps make her surroundings and new people a little less scary, knowing that he is okay with them. Bailey just lights up when she sees him, wiggling her whole body and little nubbin tail. Because of this, Bailey will need to go to a home with another dog that is easygoing and confident. She has not been tested with cats. BAILEY (7 years-old, about 65 lbs.) walks well on a leash (loves walks!), and is crate and potty trained. Bailey truly is an easy dog to have around, she just needs some patience and understanding. Unlike her foster brother, she does not like to shower you with kisses or jump all over you. She is happier just lounging on comfy furniture and deciding when she wants to be near you. She also loves to spin or bounce like a bunny when she is excited, to go potty, or eat her dinner which is truly adorable and makes her foster parents laugh every time! She is up to date with her vaccinations and microchipped as well. Bailey’s foster parents love her dearly and are so patient with her, and she will need a family that will be as committed to helping her slowly acclimate and help her trust in them. She will need patience, love, structure, and slow introductions to help build confidence and trust. Bailey doesn’t have a lot of reason to trust humans. But we know that there is a perfect home out there who will love her and help her understand that her forever home means forever! BARRY is seeking his forever home! This hunk’o love is a roughly 1.5-2yr old male. He is very athletic and has plenty of energy. He is an extremely intelligent boy and is eager to please. He has gone through professional training, knows all of his commands, and does well in a crate. Barry does well with other dogs, but because of his energy level and drive is not recommended for families with young children or cats (or other small animals). Barry would be wonderful for an active family who would incorporate him into their lifestyle. Even with a moderately high energy level, Barry loves following his foster parents and loves snuggling with them at every opportunity. Ventana loves to play but redhead is also quite content lounging around in the sun. She's good on a leash and likes to say hi to all the neighborhood kids. RUSTY is finally ready to meet the world! This cutie pie is about 1 1/2 years old and has a had a rough start in life so far, but that is now turning around! A good samaritan found him as a stray this summer and it was soon discovered that he was battling heartworm disease. Heartworm disease can be fatal if untreated, and the course of treatment can be very painful and difficult for dogs, requiring several weeks of strict crate rest. Unfortunately for Rusty, he had a severe allergic reaction to a medication used to kill heartworms, which delayed further treatment and extended his recovery by an extra month. Rusty is ball of energy, and no doubt all this crate rest has given him a case of cabin fever! While he is excellent in a crate (calm, quiet, no messes, doesn't tear up bedding), he can't wait to get out and explore! Rusty is athletic but just a little guy at 40 lbs, so you wouldn't guess he has the strength of superman! He is finally cleared to begin training and is learning proper leash etiquette and basic commands. He is attentive and seems like he will be a quick learner. We aren't sure yet how Rusty is with other dogs or cats since he is just coming off activity restrictions. He gets overly worked up when he sees new dogs while in a cage or on leash, but he shows little interest in the cats or dogs that he is familiar with in his foster home. Rusty is a sweetheart with people and craves attention. Stay tuned for updates as we get to know the real Rusty better!
